The connection is irresistible on a superficial level. Gigantopithecus was enormous, lived in Asia, and disappeared long before written history. That has made it a favorite candidate whenever people try to give Bigfoot, Sasquatch, or Yeti stories a prehistoric explanation.
But geography and evidence matter. Sasquatch is primarily a North American legend, while Gigantopithecus fossils come from Asia.
